CARLENE A. CHAMBERLAIN - Tribal Council Secretary / Enrollment Coordinator

Carlene A. Chamberlain serves as the Secretary and Enrollment Coordinator for the Jamul Indian Village Tribal Council. Her duties include recording Tribal Council and General Council meetings as well as maintaining and updating family information for each Tribal Member.

Mrs. Chamberlain has been a member of the Tribal Council since 1992 and previously served as Vice-Chairwoman for many years before assuming her current role. Mrs. Chamberlain enjoys serving our people and encouraging the young women in her Tribe to assume leadership roles. She is also a board member of the Southern Indian Health Council, a seven-member consortium of the most southern Tribes, which participates in meeting the health care needs for our Reservations.

Raised by her nomadic Mother, Mrs. Chamberlain moved many times growing up. She was born at the Monte Vista Ranch in 1955, the area now known as Rancho San Diego, near Cuyamaca College. She has lived on the Reservation at Jamul, Dulzura, Hemet, El Cajon, Casa De Oro and now resides in Ramona. Her mentors for becoming involved in Tribal politics were her Grandmother, Mother and other female leaders growing up. She attended Monte Vista High School, Grossmont College, and Cuyamaca College majoring in Fire Science and Supervision. Mrs. Chamberlain has years of experience with the City of El Cajon, Heartland Fire Communications, San Diego City Fire Department, Fire Communications Center and for a brief time after retirement, Rancho Sante Fe Fire Department Communications Center. Since her retirement in 2006, she works full time for Jamul Indian Village of California, Tribal Government.

With her husband of 31 years, Mrs. Chamberlain has 10 grandchildren, 5 girls and 5 boys and 1 great granddaughter. She is currently raising her oldest granddaughter who has been with her since 2010, she is now 13 years old. When not serving the Jamul Indian Village, Mrs. Chamberlain enjoys camping at her favorite place in Quartzsite, Arizona during the winter for the huge “garage sale”. Having grown up without television, she loves spending time watching TV, especially Netflix. She also enjoys spending time with her grandchildren: going to movies, cooking dinners with them, and sharing meals. The girls enjoy storytelling time and hearing about how Mrs. Chamberlain lived when she grew up.
